today was my annual hunt tom and his crew at TnT and as usual we had a great time. i personally had a rather bad day when it comes to my shotguns i had major problems with both of the guns i took.
my ithica 37 12g had a major malfunction. a shell went off inside the reciever before the shell was loaded into the chamber and blew out of the bottom of the action. thank god they are bottom eject and i wasnt hit with anything. scared the living hell out of me though. one of the guides rode me back to the truck with the 4wheeler so i could get my other gun a 16g ithica 37. after two shell through the 16 i noticed a crack in the barrel. the 12g was made in 1942 and the 16g was made in 1941. i hope i can get them fixed but they are 70 years old so i dont have my hopes up.
the guys at TnT provided me with a remington 870 to use for the rest of the hunt so i could finish the hunt. we did a 110 bird hunt and we killed 104 birds. 96 pheasants and 12 ducks.
other that the gun problems i had a good time. those guys out there are great and really know how to treat thier coustomers.

That's a new one about your 12 ga. Too bad about the 16 too. You were just about in my back yard being at TNT.

104 birds That had to be blast. I love my 870 i use it mostly for coyotes. Gotta back up my uncle Trophy's he is getting slow at old age. Walmart sales a NEF a friend got 1 as a dedicated yote shotgun it is a carbon copy of a 870 and shoots very well.

huntereddie we go there every year the saturday after the supper bowl. we are booked for next year allready feb 9. after our hunt we always go to the white tavern for a few. i am going to be out that way again soon hte bartender gave me some tips on places to coyote hunt out there so me and a buddy will be comeing out to scout soon.
quadking i think its the most fun you can have with a shotgun and not go to jail.....lol i shot about 5 boxes of shells between shooting clays in the morning and the birds. i had a good day with the birds i got 10 pheasants and 1 duck myself and had about 15 assists on other birds.
as for the gun problems im going to call ithica to see if they are fixable and depending on what they say i may have to make them wall hangers. i bet they have some stories they could tell in the 70 years they spent in the field. i know they gave me some great times.

Were these reloads or something. If not call the ammo manufactuer and explain what happened heck u might get a new rig out of the deal. Never heard of what happened to you though.

beardbuster they were brand new factory loads. winchester game loads. i think what happened was the oil in the gun froze the firing pin in the fire position. i am going to email both ithica and winchester today and see what they say

i just got off the phone with both ithaca and winchester.
the guy from winchester said there is no way the amunition was the cause of my malfunction. he was very short with me when i asked if there was a possability the primer was not seated properly or defective. he said there was no way their ammo was defective and that my gun was to blame and that was the end of the conversation. he never even asked if i was hurt.
the guy from ithaca was really great even though he couldnt help me. the person i need to talk to went home sick today and he was just filling in. when i told him what happened the first thing he said was where you hurt. when i told him no i wasnt he honestly sounded relived that i was ok. we talked for about 20 minutes. he was asking alot of questions and trying to think of a cause for the discharge. i will be call again tomorrow to talk to right person.
