My squirrel dog and a 22 mag. I know it seems like to much power but it is dead accurate and I usually make a head shot. It is nice if someone goes along with a shotgun also. Lots of times the squirrel will timber and it is hard to hit a timbering squirrel with a mag sometimes. It is easier to handle my mag with a sling and leash the dog then it is to tote my double barrel. Maybe I ought to get a pump shotgun with a sling? One good thing about a mag., enough gun if you happen to run into a coyote. Also has a longer range if you run into a groundhog.
