Fellows they are nice and if your not real fumilure with them I will tell ya alittle about mine. I to hunt with my father and I know what your saying archer. Anyway the motorollas have alot of different opptions such as channel scan, weather channel, emergency ring tones, handsfree use, headset connection and alot of different channel comboes to choose from. We set ours to a main channel and the choose a unique sub channel so we usually are the only ones on it. The nice thing is if you would happen to get out of range you can hit the scan button and scan all channels and sub channels untill you find someone (meaning another parties radio channel). It seems like alot more people have them now adays and I think its great for emergencies or just to say hey to a buddy when your out there in the woods all day. Sort of a comfort thing. Good Luck and good Idea to get some check them all out .

get the best ones you can afford. i have motorola's that say you can talk for ten miles. will they will as long as you aren't out in the woods with the trees to cut down on the signal.

You are right mrlongbeard they don't cover as far as what they say. They do all there testing on the lakes and oceans on open water. I say we might get a mile out of ours when in the woods. Good point!

when looking to buy 2 way radios, look for the most watts output.Typically radios have 2 services FRS which require a license, and GMRS which doesnt require a license. The higher watt output is usually in the FRS radios, while the GMRS radios are 1 watt

Can't someone with a scanner pick you up? Even when using sub channels?

not being smart, but who would really care if someone hears them say....hey joe, have you seen any deer yet - or man its raining to hard for me and i'm heading to the car....lol it would only be a problem with someone listening if it would be discussing something illegal, then maybe it would be a reason to worry. please note: this was just an example... i was not suggesting that anyone has or ever would do something illegal

I could be wrong but as i understand it if you use the radio to tell a hunting buddy that deer are headed his way you are in violation of a Pa game law
It is illegal to use a vehicle to locate game; to have more than 25 people in a hunting party; or to use portable two-way radios to alert hunters about the presence or approach of game.

you are absolutely correct skwirl, it is illegal to alert that deer are coming!
but there is no laws that i know of that say you can't ask if your hunting partner has seen anything yet if you been in the woods awhile.
if so its just plain ridiculous!!!!!
it never seems to fail, someone always has to imply that someone is either refering to or doing something illegal!!!!!
for gods sake' give it a break!!!!!!!!

From my point of view its ridiculous that the PGC has to have a law prohibiting law abiding hunters from using any thing and everything.
