I bought some Gold Tip arrows at a yard sale, they were a dozen Trophy hunter 400 never use still in box for $ 30.00. I thought that was a good deal, and still do....But as I inspected them alittle closer when getting home for defects and I was going to take the fletching off to refletch with blazer vanes. I noticed 2 of the arrows on the nock end have a split in the carbon......
now my question is this... being I will be refletching them, may i cut them to length on that end.......I measured (with micrometers) the circumferences of both ends and both the outside and inside measurements are the same.
these 2 arrows will be only use to practice with

If it were me I would trash the split ones...............The split may just be a short one but the strength of the arrow is compromised

Yes you can cut them on that end it will not hinder anything. As skwirl said just check the arrow after shooting to make sure there not spliting further down the shaft but I seen this with gold tip arrows before and you will be fine.

If after you cut the arrows down to the size you desire. Flex the arrow back and forth and run your fingernail around the arrow from top to bottom. Most of the time this will detect a crack in the carbon fiber. Also as stated repeated check all arrows before and after for any defects in the arrow.
