Went out with our group Saturday, weather started out miserable, heavy rain & high winds, but that didn't stop the boys!!
John and I met up with Buddy, Nick, Ryan and Nathan. We hunted local gamelands (not a club hunt) that they stocked Tuesday for the youths. It was a tough day as the birds were spooky & running really bad, but they managed their limits between 4 kids. Many pics I got in the early AM didn't turn out well due to the rains, so you have to forgive the pic quality....cheapo camera.
Nick going for the flush with Tara on point & Tucker backing her
The gang working a bird, John with Tucker on point
Sun finally poked out, Buddy shooting one over Tara
Wish this was better, Buddy Tara & their bird from previous pic
Tara
Even old Buck got to come out for a little...he only lasted about 30 minutes before his back started bothering him & his rear was weakening, but he had a bird! Even though he was having trouble with his rear legs, you can see his intensity, the old man still has it!
Kids and their birds we got before John left around 10 AM
Then John left & it was Tara & Jesse, this was 5 mnth old Jesses first real hunt and first time ever on phez, he really did a great job!! He had the bird in this shot....Tara came out of the cover in front of him & never saw him already on point, she hit scent & locked up as well, this was his first point on a phez.
Jesse backing Tara

Jesses first phez retrieve!! A nice rooster with a story......this bird was hit and hit the ground running. The dogs tracked it over 600 yds total, pointing it several times, but it kept running. Nick finally got it. It ran like a rabbit, finally got it up(Jesse found it), but it couldn't fly well & landed in a tree (had no shot on the flush) This bird took us from one end of the SGL back to the other, the dogs stayed on it though & we rcovered it.
Jesse retrieving the rooster:
All in all once the rains cleared out, it was a great day, going back out Monday afternoon to try for a couple more!!
