I went duck hunting for the first time on Tuesday. I got two mallard and wood duck. Now I don't know what to do with them. I haven't even field dressed them and just put them in the freezer. Mainly all i want from them is the breast meat. How should I go about doing this, if this was a deer i wouldn't be asking any questions, but being this my first time with duck, can I have some help with what to do or how to go about getting the breast meat after already frozen or did I mess up

Congrats!! I don't hunt or eat duck, don;t like it much, so cannot help you with that. When I get geese, I just open the skin up & use a fillet knife to fillet the breast meat out by running knife down the breast bone, no plucking or gutting needed. I then reach into the "pocket", pull the leg out (after cutting the foot off), bend it back & remove whole leg quarter. I imagine you can do duck the same as far as dressing it out. Probably have to thaw it to get meat off, just do it when you are ready to prepare it, doubt you ruined anything. (did you gut them??)

Ann is right all except I would not bother with the duck leg. Not worth the effort. And yes they are edible. Congrats on your first ducks.
