The Mon. has a good population of both Large and Smallmouth. You'll find them in the usual places.Might even catch a Channel Cat on a spinner bait. Or a Musky on a tube lure. That's fun on an ultra-light.Even a hammer handle will get your heart pumping.

Stech1233 I know I've been gone from the Burgh for over 30 years. When did the gar start being caught in the Mon?

I know a guy that caught a gar fishing the river at Belle Vernon about 20 yrs ago and he didn't know what it was. I heard there are 45 or 65 species of fish in the Mon. I don't remember but even 45 is enough to make your day. Find the right structure for your quarry and you'll have some fun. I like to fish for Channel Cats behind the house. I got 55 ft of river front.Boat dock and a 17ft Basstracker Tournament TX if I want to take it out but gas is too high so I bank fish with a cigar and a cooler filled with adult refreshments and an Aderondack style chair.Heck, My buddy caught a mudpuppy last Sunday.I got one a couple years ago. We catch and release and crimp down our barbs and lost no fish on account of the barbless hooks and we caught some big carp and catfish.Life is good.
