Woke up this morning and, for some reason, decided to go for a walk for grouse. My main reason was to look for bear sign. Grabbed my vest and picked out the old Ithaca 16GA pump. When I got to my destination, there were two vehicles parked there. I knew who they were and that they were archery hunting for deer. I also know where their stands are located. Knowing this, I set up a walk to take me far away from them. What a beautiful day! It was calm, with a very slight breeze now and then. A light snow was drifting down to the ground. The floor of the woods was dampened by rain and snow yesterday. Very good conditions for a grouse hunt. I spent my time slowly going from one promising area to another. I don't know about you guys, but time seems to go by too fast while hunting. Before I knew it, it was time to head home. What a geat day! I had a total of eight flushes. Three I couldn't get a shot. Four I missed. The last grouse I flushed, I finally connected. This was just "one of those days". No great expectations, but everything seems to come together to make it a memorable day.

Nice grouse. That hunt reminds me of my younger days, going for a walk at the camp and taking a grouse with the 20 gauge.
