While hunting today, I walked a large section of gamelands. It is easy to figure out why deer sightings have gone down tremendously. Everywhere I walked, which was a few miles, I was greeted by markers tied to trees. And everywhere there were markers, there were orange electrical cords running through the woods. I'm talking miles of it. They were running through every section of gamelands I walked. Every now and then I'd find a three foot by three foot square of "tarp" with a heavy ring at each corner. I came to learn that the supplies the workers need, including very large rolls of electrical wire, are dropped by helicopter. They have already started to blast to find the hidden treasure--gas. I don't know how the rifle deer season will go this year, but I'm not real optomistic right now.

Those jackasses will wear in some heavy roads with their side by side quads too. They were all over the place where I hunt in northern Clearfield County this fall. I went to a bass pond to hunt ducks and they had a track they drove through about every 15 minutes. They had paths worn through a lot of places we hunt in the fall. They seem to have moved on thankfully. There is nothing like sitting in the woods and having them come through on a quad constantly. They were pretty nice guys and only doing their job, but I don't have to like it.

Funny this issue is on hear because I was going to post something to vent myself! Well here it goes! I was at camp all last week to hunt archery in Bradford county and I must say it was the most frustrating week I have ever had hunting. I am not one to get to exited as long as I am in the woods sitting in my stand with the peice of nature all around. What a freaken joke! Started out last sat. and sunday I did alot of walking around just scouting looking for scrapes and good deer sign before choosing my home to hunt for the week. Well that started the frustration. The mountain I always hunted was greeted with pink, blue, red yellow, orange ribbons everywhere as if I was walking in a freaken X-mas village. Then the sounds of the side by sides and there little tank machines for sismic drilling crashing through the laurel. I must say it acctually brought a tear to my eye the way everything was just getting torr up. I finnaly found a good spot on sunday afternoon to put the stand where I found a bunch of fresh scraps and rubs that looked promissing. Monday morning I was in the stand about 20 min. before first light, around 7:15 I had a spike buck under me at 8 yards that just worked his way down the vally. 12:45 I looked down at a scrape that was 42 yards from my stand and there was a small 8 point stand rubbing the tree and freshing up the srape, he also worked his way down the vally. 2:25 I had 5 nice long beards come in at 12 yards and the frustration of a later turkey season sunk in. That was my Monday. Now for the fun. Got back it my stand Tuesday morning about the same time a seen 4 doe at first light at 12:23 I look to my left and I see to guys walking toward me aross the field, The where Geosismic testers. They came with in 15 yards of my stand and started hacking threw the would with mashetys and hanging pink ribbons this went on for a good 2 hours then all got quiet. at 3:55 I hear machines coming in the game land trail that leads to the feild it was the test drillers and they start drilling in the feild. Now I guess what burns me up is of all places to drill they knew someone was back there hunting because my truck at the gate but they just don't give a nuts! I pcked up my stuff and headed back to the truck. I ended up on another game land closer to camp with the same bullshit happening to me the rest of the week with the invassion of Mexicon mashette swingers and hellicopters dropping crap all over the woods. By this past sat. I had enough and packed up my stuff and came home. Like others said I never seen so many ribbons and wire strung out in the woods in all my years. It just seems as if they have No respect for the land what so ever. I know they are there to do a job but Holly nuts are they wrecking the place. I just hope that every one up there that got there big checks are happy because the land scape will never be the same.Sorry everyone but I had to vent and I could go on and on but what will it help. Peace

My biggest problem is with their timing. That gas has been there for thousands of years. Couldn't they work From February thru August?

I couldn't agree more! My thoughts to a tee. From what I was told they are not shutting down trough bear or rifle either. This should be an interesting year for sure!

there everywhere here....doesnt bother the game much and once they plant the deer are all over it....but starting in deer season is not good...plus you guys up there have large tracts of beautifull land...the only large areas we have is where the coal companies are giving the PGC use of there land where the wells are going on....besides those try hunting 50 to 150 acre posted properties...its far from hunting...and your hunt nearly gets ruined by something...guess thats why i chase predators noone to fight the woods for at 1am....

They're gone. Everywhere I went today, I saw no sign of the orange electrical cords. There were still a few of the pink markers left. I hope these are not there to indicate drilling sites. Hopefully things will settle down in the woods before rifle season.
