Hey everyone. this is my first year going in flintlock season. it also my first time firing a flintlock. and for some reason all of my shots are way low at 50 yards. i have no idea why and dont know how to adjust it. and i can only fire 3 shots before it carbons up and is VERY difficult to get another load in. Any input would be appreciated.

Try 25 yds if your shots are still low you have to lower your rear sight. I usually clean my barrel after every shot makes it easier to load. What are you shooting brand, how much powder and what kind of bullets the new ones or you shooting patched round balls. Well help you out as far as we can.

im using a traditions deerhunter with 265gr pre lubed hornady's and 100 gr of no.4 goex. i just got back from shooting, i moved the rear sight and now its shooting 2 inches low and good left to right. i forgot the cleaning kit so i had to come home to clean it. im going back out tomorrow for some fine tuning.

I dont clean my barrel after every shot at the range, but do after 4 or 5. Though different projectiles are harder then others to stuff down the barrel too. but I just take some squares cut from plain white tshirts and rubbing alcohol. Then run a patch or two to dry. Dont worry about giving it a thourough cleaning, its not necessary till your done shooting and get home.

I used to use 2-F powder and after 2 shots you could feel the difference trying to push a patched roundball down the barrel what a bear. Then I read a article and switched to 3-F and its much cleaner burns better you dont have your first patch coming out looking like tar. Good shooting with moving your sight which way did you go with it did you lower it. Ive been experimenting with a 6 O'Clock hold its different but you can see your target at 75 yds and the sights aren't covering your whole target.

3f burn rate isnt well suited for 54 cal. Its more often used with smaller.

Open sight movement for impact correction: Front sight goes opposite of where you want the impact point to go. The rear sight goes the same way. To check it out. Take a lazer pointer, tape a small strip of paper to the front and back. Line the front and rear papers like a site and mark where the dot hits; cut the front sight (shorten or lower it); resight the papers again and you'll notice the dot raises the impact location, thus lowering the front sight raises the shots impact point..
