I am far from being a fan of the PGCs bird program. For how many hunters we have I would sooner see a stamp some land set aside for bird hunting only, just like a bird farm. There would be more success and more hunters going back to pheasant hunting and more stamps sold. It would pay for itself. I have sat on a certain gameland squirrel and coyote hunting and watched these birds walk right beside me where hunters are hunting for them a half mile away in the flats. These birds wont last on these open hillsides but they don't know this there pushed there....
We need to push for a better way....there has got to be a better way...i have friends who have the top bird dogs around there hunted daily on bird farms...his son hunts the gamelands with them and they kill very little...and im certain other hunters can say the same....wheres all these birds go they dont get harvested...only a small percentage...
what is the kill on the birds from the flood? this is a big loss of some good birds for hunting....and a costly way to loose them...i hope it wasnt many....but there needs to be changes of some type in the bird hunting program...maybe make the season earlier so it costs less to keep them...and the coyotes ..etc..have other food so more birds can be harvested by hunters...
