I have some old goose loads...Super-X 2 3/4" Mag #2 that I was gonna try since I can't use 'em on geese or turkeys. It'll go through 1/2" plywood (my pattern board) at 50 yds. T steel will go through auto body sheet metal and the plywood at 40 yd from my 10 Ga. reloads but geese laugh at me when I shoot at them with it unless they're real close. Don't know about Coyotes. I think it'll light 'em up but I'd put my money on the lead 2's to get through the hair and hide. JMO

There's only two that you are permitted to use when you hunt with our hound group...we've seen them all used over the last 5 years and have seen plenty tried but only two work.. Remington 3 inch mag #4 buckshot and Dead Coyote, that's it and if you hain't got one or the other when you show up you hain't goin'

Because we've seen the results of so called kill hits made by just everything else and then the damage done during the fight that occurs once the dogs catch up to the wounded coyote and it hain't pretty. By the way, NO RIMFIRES are permitted and no rifles smaller than the .223... The last rimfire hunt caused about $1000 in medical bills to our kill dog and one of the girls and that was the last time one was used. You'd be surprised at the kill ability of some of these shells on coyotes..there's also a big difference in the performance of the size of the pellets.. they can be tough once that ole adrenaline gets pumping

At what ranges are you shooting these Coyotes and what chokes, Frank? And why Remington? Are the other brands inferior or does the Rem. pattern best for you and your combo? Just asking.

I've seen kills from point blank on bay-ups to 70 yards or so with both, the main difference of course with the two is price..your talking $6.00 for 5 with the remingtons vs $40.00 for the dead coyote--big difference between the two but the dead coyote seems to have a little more punch from 50-70 yards. It's hard to tell why.. lots of variables from guns, to chokes to the ability of the shooters. We try hard to make sure they are always shot on paper, we want you to know where these shells are hitting and when our groups looks at the results of the hits it just seems that those two shells cause the most damage, the greatest amounts of hits all the time.. Two years ago we dealt with a coyote that we laughed could never make it through the metal detectors at the airport!! When he finally died upon skinning him out we found all types of BB's from 6 shot, 4 some BB's and some #4 buckshot, for whatever reason they all just seemed to miss vital organs or arteries..he finally died from an /06 bullet if my memory is correct..they some times can take a hit and keep on ticking.. ,main thing is to shoot em on paper and see what's going on. Well, it's time to head out for today's coyote wars..hopefully I'll get to see some holes in these varmints..should be a great day with fresh snow finally and calm conditions compared to the last three days..

I never realised they were so tough. I guess the American way works... More and Bigger is Better. I may be out smarted but not out shelled. Thanks for the info Frank and Valleyhunter.I don't have dogs so maybe a rifle has to do.My 243 should work cause I wouldn't take my 12# 22-250 groundhog gun .Going up north this weekend and see what I can call up and blast.

Either of those huntereddie will be fine but I would choose the 243 also rather than carry the weight of the 22/250 but that will also be fine out to 350 or so but the 243 will be better. I think based on hunting them for the last ten years that the adrenaline build up during the chase in their muscles makes them just a little tougher than sneeking into the call... maybe it's the mood of the animal at times..you need to look up some hound hunters in that area, just ride around a look for trucks that have dog boxes in the beds and watch and see and listen to what's going on..

Yeah, I know how much harder a 243 hits than the 22-250 at equal ranges from an extra 20 grns of bullet even at a lower muzzle velocity than my 22-250.Good advice on the hunters w/dog boxes. I'll look out for them but I won't hijack their hunt. Thanks
