i saw the pics of this bear on the pgc facebook page and wow is it a monster.here is what the caption read.
The world's largest hunter-killed black bear was taken right here in PA. Only one bear skull is known to be larger; that skull was found in Utah in 1975. Robert took this Monroe County, black bear in 2011. The bear's skull measured a Boone & Crockett Club score of 23 9/16 inches. You'll find Robert's #1 PA bear in the upcoming version of the PGC Big Game Records Book available August 2012.

our bear population is really doing well and there are getting to be some big bears out there. i wonder how much of it is a result of gary alts bear plan

I think alot of it has to do with his plan! I just wish he had done as good of a job with the deer plan but we all know how that turned out! LOL

I continue to hear the good bear hunting we have in pa is because of gary alt , so please someone tell me just what did he do , yes he did study after study , but just what did HE do that improved our bear hunting.

basicly he set-up the bear management plan. that plan was designed to build the bear population unlike the deer plan that was the exact opposite.

no answer is going to suffice, is it? Only because you have no answer , just a rude comment .

And who should know the answer better than a Game Warden? And what kind of answer do you get??? Some smart @ss remark. Typical Game Warden response. I wonder if he responds like that to his superiors?
Sounds like someone needs a crash course in how to deal with the public.

Gary Alt convinced the commissioners to allow the killing of cubs. While it doesn't appear to have hurt the bear population, it's hard to believe it helped. Maybe the warden doesn't want that info out 'cause it doesn't look good to the general public.

First off I am not a Game Warden, Second I am here on my own time as a private individual. And last but not least, The bear program is well documented and for anybody that really wanted an answer its there.

The reason for lifting the cub ban is also well documented and makes perfect sense from a wildlife management view.

So you think it helped the bear population and, if so, how?
