On a trip from Lancaster County to Tioga/Potter this weekend, I was surprised at the number of roadkills.
Haven't seen so many in a number of years. Seems like more and more each year. Could be in some areas the deer are coming back a bit?
Good heavens, even saw a couple in Potter! Who'da thunk it?

That certainly is a good sign.
On the other hand, lets hope this sign doesn't cause the Deer Management people to increase the doe permits again.

I really think up north around where I am is the lack of hunting pressure. We have more bear hunters then deer hunters anymore and I think with the gas companys all over also had an effect on hunters.

Are you saying that the lack of hunters is directly related to the gas drilling?
It has been my experience that most hunters I have spoken to have given up deer hunting in the Northern tier because of the lack of deer. Just look at all the deer hunting camps for sale. That should be a strong indicator.

i think that the gas drilling plays a small role. one of the places i hunt in venango county was drilled last year and we went from seeing about 20 deer in a week on the game cam to 0. i think that all the camotion chased them off, and just when they were starting to come back. however i think lack of deer is still #1

I think the biggest thing is lack of deer but now because of the lack of hunters the deer seem to be making alittle headway again. I do know of a few camps around me that havent hunted up there for the last 2 years and plain not to this year either because of he gas companys everywhere. Thats what I meant when I said that. I do believe they have some impact yes!

Many of the people I talk to that hunt upstate are saying they are seeing more deer. As for the gas thing, yes, commotion will cause deer to shy away from an area, until the disturbance is over.
I had a trail cam close to a parkign area where I hunt. Lots of cam pics, UNTIL I was up for a week working from that spot. Once we disturbed that area, the deer avoided it. It's just what they do.
