For some may know him his name was John Hershey but went by " Henny"! He was a man of his word an avid fisherman and long time hunter! He was a big archery hunter and shoot every big game animal in north America, Henny was a great Freind and would help any way he could. He owned the late Hershey hotel in Lititz pa on main street but has since sold it and became my neighbor 3 years ago. He always went with us 3d shooting and kept our score cards. In the morning here at home with the windows open you always knew when Henny Was on his walk because of the smell of his pipe. God I'm going to miss that smell and the smile of the most positive man I have ever meat. Henny just had heart surgery it April and was having a tuff recovery but he was doing his best. Well I waved to him this morning while he was sitting on his porch as I jumped in my van to head to work. I got a phone call after lunch from my wife that Henny decided to go fishing and that is where he went to the heavens! They figure as of now he had a heart atack and was found in the creek with his fly rod! God speed old buddy and our family will never forget all you have done for us!!!

Prayers sent. Sounds like my kind of guy. If I must go, I only hope that it is with a rod or firearm in my hands.

Chad, Henny was a mentor ro many of the areas older bowhunters. He's the guy that allowed us to all gather at his home on Hilltop Rd and shoot our bows in his yard. He enjoyed showing us what we were and weren't doing wrong.
There was a point, back in the late 70's when he gave up hunting, abruptly and never hunted again. It was then that he took up fishing in ernest.
I always enjoyed when I was working around town seeing him on his walks, and yes, the smell of his ever present pipe told me he was close by, if I didn't see him.
I had no idea he had surgery and to know he died beside a creek, probably Middle Creek, brings a bit of a smile to my face, even as I sit here remembering one of my true mentors.
One of a kind, thats for sure.
Henny, you and your good works will live on thru many of us.

God grant that I may fish until my dying day; And when at last I come to rest, I'll then humbly pray; When in His landing net I lie in final sleep; That in His mercy I'll be judged as good enough to keep! --Homer Circle
