I was under the impression that a semi is only ok for birds, not for small game. Semi's(shotgun only) can be used on any game except deer and bear

I have a Rem. 12 guage Mag. that I've used for turkey and geese, an Ithaca 12 that I've used on grouse over the years, and an old Lefever side by side 12 that I carry for doves, grouse, and ducks. None of these get over used any more, however.

the last ten years I've prefered and enjoyed the hunting with my 20 ga Tulle flintlock. I've posted this photo elsewhere . I enjoy flintlock hunting and when I can go totally primitive (even with the required orange) it becomes mind relaxing.

I have used a double barrel shotgun all of my life. I sure would like to get a semi or a pump because they are easier to sling. Two dogs and a double barrel without a sling can be a pain in the butt and mine is only a 20 guage. In the extended season that started a few years ago I have found out that my 20 guage is not enough gun for the thick late winter fur of a squirrel. I know a lot of you will think I am nuts but I hunt with squirrel dogs and I even tried #4 shot. 4 shot will knock them out if they aren't too far up the tree but it seriously does not do the job if they are up high. I use the mag a lot but I always like it when someone has a shotgun and someone has a rifle. Shotgun gives the dogs more action than the rifle. Hit them with the mag or a .22 and they drop like rocks. Stone cold dead when they hit the ground.

for rabbit hunting i go with a short barrelled 870 express pump. its cheap gun thats going to some abuse. i have two beagles i hunt behind and i find it nice to have a short barrelled gun that is easy to swing in cover. so far it has worked out great and i have turned some other rabbit hunters on to the shorter barrels

I like both semi and O/U. Got a Benelli Monte and Beretta O/U both in 20ga.
