I own a ole man climber.I have had it for atleast 11 or better years, its very quite ''still''and very safe and relieable, its a bit heavy for my 43 years old taste but what you gonna do?the hose covered cable is withstanding my 225lb frame with no cracks or rips, only downfall for me is if I set the cable wrong its very tough for ''me'' to disconect the bottom cable to adjust the pitch of platform,I climb back down to readjust it,lol, told u i was getting old!but in general its a very good product, made in america, and oh,ya,u can turn the top piece toeither a back rest or a foot rest, payed over 300.00 back then but worth every penny, little F.Y.I,if u'r stands r squeeky, melt vasoline andapply to noisey parts, add scent if u want, pine ect.Wear u'r 5 point harness'while assending and decending, thats when most falls happen! cabin out!

Switched from Summit to Lone Wolf climber. A little bit more compact than the summits and longbow friendly. Summit is also an excellent choice. I really like their climbing stirups.

Have been using a summit last several years, I think its a viper, could be wrong, but anyway I do like it, very comfy, comes with shooting bar if I wanna use it for rifle. Shim up and down a good tree in no time.

I just bought a Lone wolf Alapa sit and climb. I've used a api, summit, and north starr and I like the Alapa the best. The traction belt system is the best atachment on the market. It folds down flat for easy packing and is light. The one-piece cast aluminum platform eliminates noise. The seat is the weakest link. I replaced mine with one from summit. I agree with dougell top climber needs to be wider and longer. My harness catches on the knobs for folding down. I called Lone wolf on it and they said a larger model is coming for 09.

I have 2 cheapo Ameristep Grizzly Challenger Hang-On stands.
Likes: ---The price is only $50 and you can pick them up on clearence for $35 or $25 if they last til the 2nd mark down at walmart. ---They have nylon washers to eliminate squeaks ---Medium Weight at 19lbs. (I carry them strapped to my climber as a bundle)
Dislikes: ---I'm a large guy at 6ft2 280lbs and the seat is a bit small for more than 2 or 3 hours of sitting. ---The included safety strap is too small for me to stand upright (added cost) ---The single strap that is supposed to hold the stand is a pull strap that you can never get tight. I bought 6ft ameristep ratchet straps to hold them. ($10) ---platform is a bit small for shooting to the right (im right handed), its not for those who fear heights ---unless you put the seat cushion between the post and platform and strap it it will rattle without the cushion.
An older ameristep grizzly climber
Likes: ---The seat works to keep your butt warm in the cold and its good for all day. ---It digs into the tree pretty well so you dont have to balance your weight so closely to avoid shifting. ---the cross bar on the hand climber is far enough out and elevated so you can rest a gun or bow in front of you sideways.
Dislikes: ---It is a pain to carry because it does not fold flat and rattles a lot even with 2 ratchet straps ---its heavy but since its a few years old and discontinued I don't know the exact weight
