I went out hunting with my uncle the last 2 days and had a blast. Now I've decided that I'm going to get my own flintlock and need some suggestions on what to get. Any info, including price range, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

You can't go wrong with a T/C, but Lymans are right there too. You can get a Lyman Trade Rifle for around 300.00 +/-. I'd probably stay away from those everything included package guns if you are serious.

Go with a Lyman Great Plains in a 1:60 twist for round balls. Say a 54 cal with a 75 gr 3F load and a 530 ball and .015 patch and you will shot well at shoots as well as have a GREAT hunting gun for anything in North America. Bear included. Less than 400 and Dixons Muzzleloading Shop in Kempton is a rep for Lyman.......Chuck also sells used ones to boot. PS---the Great Plains seems long by today standards but I will try to post a pic of it compared to a custom long gun ----I now consider my Great Plains my brush gun!!!LOL ;D

What dickert said plus the Lymans have drop-in barrels available which gives you an option of gettin a faster twist for shootin modern sabots etc. Like having 2 guns.
I second re checking Dixons out!!

I agree with dickert54cal. The Lyman Great Plains is one of the most accurate out of the box flintlocks. I did a ton of research before buying and this gun seemed to be the overall favorite.
I use a .530 grain ball and .018 diameter pillow ticking patch with mine. 2F Goex power goes down the barrel and 4F for priming.

If you dont want to spend extra money use 3F instead and you can use it as both your hunting and prining powder!!!

What is your Goex 3F load out of the GPR? Been kicking that idea around.

I personally think the Trade Rifle carries better in the woods. Dixons does have the Lyman models so you can check them out there.

Dont buy a Pederosoli (sp?) just saw a writeup onit in Muzzleloader Mag tonight---without a gunsmith making some changes to the breech area the gun basically suck$-----it has a chamber similar the GPR ---however the GPR is well designed with a large chamber for ignition---the above gun has a very narrow channel thus many times the trigger will be pulled and NOTHING!

My vote is an RMC accusporter.Green mountain barrel,L&R lock and a nice laminated stock.I also have a T/C renegade but the RMC is twice the gun in my opinion.
