I would buy in a 30-06. I would say Hornady light mag SST's, or a Interbond both in 165 grain.

THAT's a tough call to say the least..each and every rifle is different in what it likes and dislikes...most are capable of shooting groups of 2 inch or less at 100 yards...that's more than good enough to hunt anything in this state.....you'll have to get some different brands and try a few on paper..don't forget to clean the barrel between the different types..and shoot a fouling shot before shooting your groups...gotta be fair to each brand....JUST make sure you pick a good bullet...partitions, X-bullets, fussion's etc...saves a lot of grief later !

Ditto. My brother always had the opinion that His remington rifle did best with rem. ammo. His theory was that Rem. ammo was developed in Rem guns. But that seems a bit oversimplified to me.

Start loading your own, you'll enjoy it and be able to shoot more often. And you'll really enjoy taking game with ammo that you loaded.

all i have ever used in my rifles is Remington factory ammo, i have gotten very good groups at 100 yards in most of the guns it was used in.
my Ruger 77 MKII that i bought back in "2000" was the only exception, out of the box i couldn't group under 3" with it, then after i got a couple boxes of ammo throughit it started grouping just under 1"
that one was weird' i have no idea why it took it so long to decide it was going to group better....lol

It's a phenomena called barrel break in. After the burrs and rough spots get worn down a little the groups really start to come together. I think somewhere around 100 rounds was recommended for my match rifle(AR15 with Krieger 1-7.7 barrel). That was with cleaning in between each shot. My ruger 77 mk2 in 223 seemed to group at 7/8" between 100 rds. and 300 rds. after 312 rds groups closed to 1/2". (5 shot groups at 100 yds.)

GRD - if your looking for someone to reload your 06 let me know.
I have all the neccessary tools for optimizing your accuracy. I would just need 30-06 neck sizing dies and a empty case that has been fired in your gun.
If interested let me know, and I'll get everything necessary to set you up. I'll even throw in some reloading lessons while we're at it.
good luck
