You lost fps and you lost accuracy... The equipment needed to do it right is real hard to come by.... You just can't stick it in a drill press or a milling machine and do the job........ And the noise had to increase. I've shot to many to be told it hasn't....... Good luck with the rifle and Gunsmith! MM

had two of my guns done. both shoot just as well as they did before i had it done. i guess a lot has to do with the gunsmith that does it.

amen longbeard chuck does great work, mine shoots perfectly and it was only 60.00 to port it.. if porting is so bad then why do some rifles come factory ported?and why do top notch shooters have theirs ported??

That answer is easy! They have the right eqipment to do it.. If those ports are off a hair you have less pressure on one side of the bullet than the other. Guess what that leads too? Best leave it to the People with the right equipment and it sure isn't in a local gunshop. And by the way, Huh! what you say? I can't hear you why because I've shot to many loud guns.... You look kinda funny hunting deer with ear muffs... Can't take the recoil buy a lighter rifle! Heh-heh MM
PS Pass me the drill bit will ya! ;D ;D

I have to agree with MM on the noise level , considered a porting job on my 375HH years ago and was told that i should wear hearing protection even while hunting so decided against it.

mm like buckslayer said that gunsmith we use does a great job. my 270 wsm is ported and it will put three shots at one hundred yards that you can cover with a dime. but i do agree with you there are some smiths who leave a lot to be desired

I've been doing gun work for over 30 years and I have a shop that would make most "Gunsmiths" bust a gut to own.. What I'm telling you is I know of "No Gunsmith" today with the right equipment to "Magna Port" a rifle "right".. Yes it is being done but with what? Most "gunsmith" today need work so they will do any job coming in the door doesn't mean it is right....... You have to ask yourself not only does he have the Knowhow but what does he have for tooling...... I have some of the best tooling I can afford *CNC mill* and I can port barrels do I do it No.. I can not afford the tooling to do it right.. The barrel has to be back bored and recrowned inside then ported this tooling does not come cheap or easy to use it takes a Well trained machinist and they are far and few between .... This work should be done by someone who specialists in that work .. Thats my two cents on the subject take it how ever you want... Buyer be where.... And you are seeing less and less of it being done...
And folks don't try to tell me it doesn't increase the noise and I've noticed no -one said anything about a decrease in FPS>Take a gun into a gunshop today thats been Home magna ported and try to trade it in they will tell you they aren't interested or give you pennies for it... If they do take it 9 chance out of 10 they will have the barrel shorten before putting it out to sell... MM
