Here is a neat video link. I think I want 'em here. The PGC and DCNR are quite opposed to it, as are many hunters...I say bring 'em on. If they were so destructive and incapable of coexisting with der and other wildlife, why are there so many hogs and deer living together just fine in southern states? Diseases? How about CWD and EHD even in states where there are no substantial #'s of hogs? Just another cop out by the agencies. I'm starting to think they are opposed to hunter satisfaction completely. Anyhow, check out this neat video. Sure to get your heart pumping! www.buffsblackwidow.com/videos/h&s001.wmv

Not a good idea to establish and regulate wild hogs throughout the state. They're just to destructive on the habitat.
They're not existing quite fine in Texas. Damage caused by wild hogs run in the millions of dollars annually, and USDA has had to resort to aerial gunning to control the population down there.
Btw, cool video.

First off, hogs are non-native to PA and should not be allowed to establish here. These buggers can and will be very destructive to the forests and fields of PA. I have seen first hand the destruction they leave behind. There are 1000's of hogs in California and when they go through an area it looks like a bulldozer went through when they are done We need to make sure that hogs do not get a foothold in PA before its too late. And yes they do carry communicable diseases. Trintinosous(sp??) for one which can be transmitted to humans and other live stock(and that will include deer). For those that say, well they coexist in other states with deer and other animals, don't forget that those states don't have the deer population that PA has. If you ask DFG's in states with hogs including Texas they will tell you that they are out of hand and need to be gotten rid of. The prob :oem in these states is that they waited until it was too late before trying to do anything about it. Let's not let that happen here

They also are carriers of brucellosis(sp?) which makes pigs sick, and can infect hunters dressing an infected pig.
There is abosolutely no benefit of having these animals in Pa. period.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there currently an opened unlimited season 365 days of the year in Counties of Pa. where they exist and are living?

There was until a bunch of tree huggers filed and won a law suit and forced the PGC to regulate them. The PGC is currently working on creating regulations to allow the taking of hogs during turkey and deer seasons.

here's the proposed wild hog info for next year
WILD BOAR: May be taken while lawfully hunting deer, bear or fall turkey. Unlimited.
i dont see why they didnt propose making hogs like yotes, no closed season?
i also made a post in General Hunting with all the proposed seasons/limits for '08-'09

First off, hogs are non-native to PA and should not be allowed to establish here.
Well...then lets kill of the remaining few ringnecks, Missouri cottontails, and catch all those German Browns and even the rainbows while we're at it. That's a ridiculous grounds for an argument. For those that say, well they coexist in other states with deer and other animals, don't forget that those states don't have the deer population that PA has.
What deer population? Our herd has been reduced nearly 40% in less than a decade. How many deer are there in TX...or MS, or Georgia? Should we keep going? The Carolinas....Not to mention hogs are the most popular game in FLA.... You might argue diseases or even destruction....but we have that already....and atleast we'd have something left to hunt. Realistically at this point, it won't matter what you or I think. Locals in bedford and Cambria already estimate their numbers could be over 1000...and now that the open season has been eliminated, they are probably here to stay. They are prolific breeders and hard to hunt. Look for them to be expanding their range and numbers in the next few years.

From what I've heard the PGC will make a decision by April to determine how they will handle the hog situation.
They could decide to let the USDA handle it if the funds are available. If they do, I say why stop there?
Why not a combination of USDA trapping and hunters doing there part. Include an unlimited, 24/7, 365 day season for all license holders.
I see private property and landowners being an issue for the USDA.
