I have my scoped SRH sighted in dead on at 100yds. The longest range I've taken a deer at so far has been about 75yds.

in my opinion it is more the shooters effective range , rather than the gun , the 44mag. handgun is certainly capable of killing deer at 50 to 60 yds.

My maximum effective range with any handgun is hand to hand combat.I can't hit the broadside of a barn with a pistol. It always amazes me when I see guys that shoot a pistol really well, especially a double action semi, like a glock.

Practice, practice, practice Doug...then practice some more. Don't shoot semis as much as I do revolvers, but the principles are the same for either. Some have a natural affinity for shooting handguns well, others need a bit of extra effort. Years ago during the "live fire" phase of the NRA Basic Pistol course, had one gal show up with a Beretta 22 short-only pistol, forget the model # now. At the 7 yard line, from single-load to shooting a full magazine, she put every bullet in the one inch bull, shot from a bench with elbows rested. Joked about it with the other guys since most of the other students had 38s and 9mms, but she did a great job with what she had. Naturally, I attributed it to superior coaching.

Glock is a single action gun.

How well can you shoot? Elmer Keith hit and killed a deer (had been previously wounded and was getting away) over 500 yards away. He helped to develop the 44 mag, and was know for using heavy cast bullets and max loads.

I would think it's easily 100 yards or so, the biggest problem would be hitting one..and that non-aerodynamic bullet slows down alot after that..

My 44 mag is scoped which shows me just how unstable I actually am free-hand.The gun is more then adiquite at 100+ yards but I have a self imposed 50 yard limit to insure ethical shot placement.I also use natural surfaces and/or body position to provide the most stable shot possible.
