i had one in rem. mod. 700 i traded it for a savage 99 in 300 savage. i got the remington real cheap. it shot great, but i never shot a deer with it. the gun was to glossy for me. however the 06 is a great all around cartridge.

Darn I wasn't controversial enough! Or my post was so intellectually brilliant that all the other none 30-06 shooters are out scouring gunshops to trade in there O'Conner 270s or there 06 308wannabes. In todays hunting scene, few folks own just ONE rifle, so there's no reason to own just one gun to do it all, except maybe if you are on welfare....The 30/06 is good for all purposes, but a master at none...The 270 holds an edge in the open places, the large 35 calibers in the brush, and the 22-250 in the varmint slot. The 308?........It's a 30/30 magnum, nothing more.

The 30-06 is king in North America. The .375 H&H is king of the world though. I've used the '06 off and on since I was 13. It's my preferred bear/moose gun.
