THE .300 winchester magnum...another widely accepted big time smasher...a great big game cartridge... more than enough power for anything you'd care to shoot in this state...use good bullets and tone her down alittle and it's awesome..but if your long range banging there's no substitute for .30 caliber killing power..I have lots of friends who side hill with them out to 1000 with no problem whatsoever.. the .300 WM is also one of the most accurate big game rounds out there, if not the most accurate magnum cartridge..if I only to pick one for everything in this state and anywhere else it north america..this would be it without question...ok men, have at it.. still easier than a 12 guage slug gun on the shoulder...

great round frank. a little to much for deer. had to try my new 300rum out after i got it and found that out real quick. anything in 30 caliber is a good choice, with so many sizes to chose from

It may put it to shame ballistic wise in some shooters eyes , but will never be as popular as the 300win.

I have a 300 wsm and have killed about a half dozen or so deer with it.The first year I loaded some 165 gr ballistic tips and had poor results. The next year I loaded 180 gr sst's and haven't had a deer take a step.I also loaded some 165 gr Hornady interbonds at 3100 fps and the results were the same. I butcher my own deer and the damage didn't seem to be noticeably worse than any other caliber.

I'm not convinced the .300 Win mag is significantly better than the 30-06. The 300 Weatherby seems to make more sense to me.
