I'm startin to get the itch! ;D Anyone considering gettin a Prop Guard?? I looked around plenty & found the Mac's Prop Guard to be of high quality & simple design. JLC Marine in Elizabethtown installed. What a great job Jeff did installing the Mac's Prop Guard. Mac's prop guards are super Heavy Duty Stainless. I was just a lil uneasy drilling holes in a 2,300 motor...worth about $30 for a pro to do it!! I am ready to ROCK...or I mean for the Rocks!! I fish alot below Conowingo hyro plant in MD & without a jet...its brutal on props. Was gonna get a jet but fish the shalllows alot & didnt like the noise plus when headin south into bigger water...i prefer a prop. Mac's Prop Guard

thunder, I saw the river runner model...believe it was a skid type plate just below skeg?
Looks like decent protection.

Now, if I could only get an invite to go on one of those rockfish trips....... For the Juniata river, we used to buy a four prong pitchfork and bolt it to the fin and planer plate. Skipped over those river rocks quite nicely.

with the exception of my last bass boat, i used the old pitchfork method most of my life. only reason i didn't use one on my Fisher Marine Hawk 3V was it had a 70HP Evenrude on it with a really nice prop guard already installed when i got it. man i miss that boat

The ole pitchfork's are great except when backtrolling or when turning sharp in tuff heavy rock structure. Then you could loose a prop.

I never put a guard on my Merc 18 hp and wished I had after havung a couple of props rebuilt. I now have a Merc 20 jet and will never go back to a prop motor. Only problem is a difference in gas usage a jet uses a lot more gas.

Yeah the approx 1/3 loss of power in the jet vs prop plus too noisy for my style of fishing is why im with a prop. The mac prop guard is outstanding & my prop is like new with a year of shallow fishin in the rocks under its belt!

I fish a lot in the Susky up in to New York and on down to Towanda and almost every one there has a jet a lot different type of water up that way than down here in the river. I would like to be in the prop rebuilding business up there. We used to pull the boat up over the riffs but now I can motor right thru them.

I run the local rivers here catfishing. I got one of these from Cabelas after fishing up in Canada for a week. Not only does it save your prop,,,it protects your whole lower unit. WELL worth the investment!
