just sold my excal exocet couldnt cope with how wide it was.. bought a 2007 horton hunter 175 and man o man ill never look back, these things are sweet, fast and compact.. i will second that...i bought a new excal also but i have it up for sale already (still unfired) so be sure to check out the for sale section here on the site if you are looking to buy a crossbow. the day i bought it i didn't realize they were so wide, all i know is after bringing it home it didn't take long to decide to go back to a Horton. in fact...buckslayers new crossbow and mine could pass for twins, i ended up buying the same model because they are fast, accurate and full of energy. well...they used to look like twins...lol they be twins once again...as soon as i can get my scope and mount for mine, i cant wait because the red ot has to go! some folks love them but they are not for me, they make my eyes look like this --->

the excalibur may be a little wider than most, but you will have to admit they are all a pain in the butt to carry in the woods, has anyone ever found a easy way to carry one.

I sure like the idea of a little less width in a bow. I'm curious, and I'm only asking because I don't know, as the cables stretch on a compound crossbow, does it got out of tune and lose accuracy?

most compound crossbows have a yoke on the cables so you can adjust the cam timeing ,not sure about your horton, but would think it does.if it doesnt you could put it in a bow press and twist the cables as you do a vert. bow

You guys are making it sound like excals are many feet wider instead of only inches compared to a horton. l had a horton hunter 175 for years and know many hunters who also have had hortons and now own excals and will never look back. Let me tell you that the disadvantage of it being wider is nothing compared to all the advantages that it has. l'm not going to list them all because l know that most of you already know them.

sorry bud, but the Excal limbs are way wider then a Horton ever thought of being, granted...not feet but still way wider...lol
i bought a 2007 Horton Hunter HD 175 xbow, it has the talon lightened trigger, a decent feeling forearm and is at probably 9-10 inches shorter in width of the limbs.
IMHO...the only thing thats better about the Excals now is that they are lighter weight overall then a Horton, far as speed goes my Hunter 175 is faster then the Phoenix by 15 fps and it also has 95 lbs. of energy.
the bottom line is every person has to make up there own mind as to what they like, and after my losing over $100.00 on a brand new Excalibur...i highly recommend that everyone check out and try all models before buying one.

Very good advice from willyhuntsdeer, shoot as many different brands as you can before you lay down that hard earned cash, think long and hard then buy what feels best to you.

Shot for shot the Excal is much more accurate. Honestly, it took me 10-15 shots to sight in my Horton Hunter compared to 2 shots with my Phoenix. On top of that, l never had to touch it again where my Horton needed constant sight in's after that. The Horton is a good bow but not a great one. As for the 15 FPS, means nothing when deer hunting. I would rather have the accuracy than the extra 15 FPS. Because l've owned both and hunted with both and know many who have, in my experience the Excals are much more superior.

I would rather have the accuracy than the extra 15 FPS. Because l've owned both and hunted with both and know many who have, in my experience the Excals are much more superior. first off...the best way to have the Horton remain dead on is to use the multi-reticle scope and disable that crappy dial-a-range junk...lol i had problems with my Horton ProHawk when i first went to the multi scope, couldn't group for chit! after disabling the dial-a-range and zeroing it again i never once had to touch it in 2 years of hunting. i fell pray to all that Excals are this, Excals are that and like a fool sold my Horton that would bust nocks every time if i did not shoot a different place on the target. that is straight facts! no bs....that thing was quite a shooter! now all you Excal guys please don't get me wrong...i don't mean to bust anyones chops here, they are very nice xbows but they are just not for me due to limb width. truthfully though...i think any xbow out there today has the ability to bust nocks consistantly if the owner takes the time to dial it in that well while using a good rest. all i know is personally...i will take a Horton any day, hands down! everyones opinions and ideas are different and thats what makes it so hard when looking for a xbow, most ask on hunting sites in hopes of hearing whats favored most. when the bottom line is...favored most don't amount to crap, each person needs to go window shopping and check out all models and see what feels right, handles right and shoots right for them.
