Report from Erie Area
Weather improved over the past week - at least for a few days - and fishing was better. A good-looking forecast now should mean a great week of fishing ahead.
Walleye and perch fishing in Lake Erie are improving. Casting from shore at the creek mouths has been slow off Trout Run, except for Wednesday evening. Trollers are catching walleye all along the western shoreline in depths of 20 feet to 30 feet, with the best action during evenings.
Smallmouth bass are still being caught in Elk Creek. The lower, deeper pools of Elk Creek are producing channel catfish on nightcrawlers and other baits.

Walleye were taken off the lighthouse in 40 feet to 50 feet and off Shades Beach in 35 feet to 40 feet. The hot set-up on the west side has been nightcrawler harnesses run from medium Dipsy Divers.
Perch fishing has been fair to good in depths of 35 feet to 37 feet off Trout Run, off the point of Presque Isle in depths of 40 feet to 50 feet and off the Hammermill Stacks in 20 feet.
Fishing is excellent in Presque Isle Bay. Both smallmouth bass and largemouth bass have been cooperating. Largemouth bass are on the beds. Poppers are providing some good surface action in the lagoons. Some perch have been caught from the North Pier, East Pier and West Pier. Bluegill fishing is good all over the bay. Some pike are still being taken. Try the marina. The ponds are providing good stocked trout fishing.
Inland trout streams generally have been good, although high front conditions have slowed fishing some days. The report at Oil Creek is that trout are starting to look to the surface with good hatches of sulphurs and tan caddis. Fishing pressure has been very light along most area trout streams, but they are loaded with trout. In the stocked trout lakes, trout are scattered now so it pays to move around.
Largemouth bass fishing has been very good at the area lakes, with plenty of action along the shorelines.
Crappie fishing remains good, but the hot spots are changing. A lot of crappie in the 8-inch to 9-inch class have been caught at Eaton Reservoir. A 17-inch crappie was also reported there.
