In 2005, my colleague (Wylie Harvey) and I created an organization which has encouraged marginalized individuals living with permanent disabilities to live a dream. The site (www.acadventures.ca) specifically is geared to the hunting and fishing enthusiast. The company "Accessible Canadian Adventures" reaches an audience of 1000-2000 online visitors per day. They peruse through information we hope is both entertaining and useful.
We've "clawed" our way to where we are currently first on the 'Google' search engine when you type "disabled hunting & fishing". We're continuing to make the site interesting, inspiring and interactive.
In the Spring of '07, "ACA" will launch a program titled the 'FIND M' directory. The site will also premier the "RJ Wildlife Gallery" interactive and colourful images provided by brilliant wildlife photographer "Rick Johnson".
Below is a clearer summary of information which has been posted.
Outfitters worldwide from Africa, Australia, Russia, South America and North America have provided 'ACA' the green light to list their services on the directory. After many phone conversations and well over one thousand emails worldwide to find 'accessibility', only 100 outfitters/organizations have currently supported the endeavour.
Please take the time guys and read Wylie's incredible story by clicking 'About Us'

What defines disabled ? I had 3 spine surgeries and all have failed , i havent been able to walk more than 200 yards for 4 years now. i live in constant pain every day. I do have things to look forward to , on the 8th I go to my painmanagement Dr. to talk about a spinalcord stimulator to help lower the pain in my legs feet and back, I do get a disabled sticker to hunt from a blind evey year. Do I count as disabled ? Thanks , Daniel

i to am disabled due to health issues, i have severe uncontrolled high bloodpressure and emphazeama which greatly limits me far as getting around.
when i am able to go hunting i can only walk 30 yards or so and have to stop until i can collect myself enough to go another 30 yards, it gets rather frustrating at times because if i want to hunt farther in the woods at some of the better spots i used to go to i can't get there anymore.
i have had to settle for much less desirable places to hunt and which also limits me as to the amount of deer i see, i have all the desire in the world to hunt and none to do it from a vehicle' so as long as i am able i will continue to do what i do and hopefully one day i can get somewhere private to hunt.
the bottom line with me is...no matter how hard it gets or how bad the hunting, i will hunt from the field as long as i am able and then when i can't do it anymore i will find other ways to hunt.
but rest assured if and when that day gets here, i will not stop hunting until the day comes that i have taken my last breath!!!
i know there are many of you out there that are much worse off then i am, but please don't ever stop hunting because there are people and places out there that are more then willing to lend a hand and see that you can get to enjoy the great outdoors and what it has to offer.

Daniel---I hope you read this!! I too have undergone 2 spinal surgeries. My doctor the 2nd time HUGO BENALCAZAR out of Siani Hospital in MD is AWESOME!!!! L5S1 Fusion gave me my life back-----NO PAIN after waking up from surgery 3 years ago......He went through my front, moved all organs etc---I woke up, took out the drip and didnt need even an asprin---Im now his poster boy for pain management. NO ONE needs to live that way---People travel from far and wide for this young man to operate on them......I have almost 100% of my normal life again---well woth it!

Dickert54cal, Thank you , I wrote his name down...Can't say I ever heard of him..I will look into this. Maryland isn't far from me.

I live in the Raystown area and had the oppourtunity to spend a summer working with the wildlife biologist and his team doing an externship for a school I was attending and the biologist lives a only a couple houses away from me. I would have to say that the summer I spent out there was very memoriable. I was present for the first release of ospreys at the lake and photographed the whole process. I have not spoken with anyone out there since 2003. My mother and my grandparents both gave up their homes when the lake was built and I was 13 when we moved. I am able and strong enough to walk to where I want to go but probably sound like a herd of elephants walking through the woods. I will check into the wheel in sportsmans hunt out there this year, maybe I can volunteer to be someones legs and they can be my ears. The Hawk
