I normally don't like to air "dirty laundry" or frustrations but I'm so frustrated & PO'd that I must vent a little plus FYI all my friends here that COULD be affected by the experience I'm dealing with right now.
Christmas of 07, all our 8 year son Logan wanted was his very own .22 rifle as he just loves to shoot. Well somehow Santa got the local Dick's Sporting goods store to stay open late and low & behold Santa delivered a nice semi auto .22 rifle complete with a 10x scope.
Logan just loves this gun and it has become his prize possession rather quickly. The shooting began as the weather permitted and he became quite proficient with it. After about maybe 100 shots through it I noticed that occasionally it would be finicky cycling from round to round. I wasn't sure if it was maybe the brand of ammo or the beginning of a problem with it but I kept my eye on it.
Well somewhere around late June or early July after maybe 300 shots through this rifle, the boys were shooting and they brought the gun to me with the action/extractor jammed in the open position.
I tried everything and to no avail, it wasn't budging and could see nothing inside such as an empty etc.
To say Logan was devastated is an understatement....
Only a couple of months old with only a few 100 shots through it....must have a warranty of some type on it. I proceeded to email Mossberg very politely describing what had occurred and asking how they suggested I handle this, send it back under warranty, take it to a local gunsmith....what was their direction ?
Weeks passed....no response....
Finally I resent the same email with an opening advising them that this was my second attempt and that I was getting a bit upset by the lack of response.
Well again weeks passed and no response...
Now I'm starting to get PO'd,...I'm beyond upset as my little guy is still out his prized .22.
Finally in early August we contact the local Dick's store where Santa got the gun from. They were very cooperative and instructed us to bring it in and they would return it to Mossberg for repair, this was 8/12/08.
We followed up with phone calls to the store and finally yesterday they called home and said the gun was in and ready for pick up.
Wife calls me at work so I run over after work and pick it up.
Drive home, head into the kitchen and Logan is waiting there full of excitement and anticipation for his prized gun, almost as excited as he was on Christmas morning.
I open it up, unwrap it and... ....WT@ !!!.... the extractor is still jammed in the open position.... Mossberg apparently did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to this gun.
I'm just spitting fireballs now, ready to kill first and ask questions later.
I call the Dick's store and tell them what has happened. They put me through to a Manager and she is in the process of investigating what happened and checking to see about an exchange.
I went even further and called Mossberg myself. Waited many minutes until their automated system finally connected me with a real person. I explained to the gal what the situation was and just how furious I was. She puts me on hold to check their records. She comes back and says ..."well sir we test fire every firearm we service".
I asked her "what their records indicate was done " to this firearm ?
Her reply was.."well sir it doesn't give any details but we test fire every firearm before shipment".....
I ask her ......" then explain the fact that it's STILL jammed just as it was when we sent it off and the fact that the bore is spotlessly clean as it was when we sent it in" as I had cleaned it in case it was a fouling issue.
She says..."sir, if your not satisfied with the service performed your welcome to send it in again for evaluation".
Now I'm really getting fed up with their BS.
She takes down my name & # and says that she'll have a manager call me back... ..yea right.
That's where we stand now,...I'm waiting to see if Mossberg does call back. Dick's is checking on their end to get an explanation from Mossberg and checking with their regional office to try to authorize and exchange, standard practice of theirs on firearms.
I must say that Dick's has been very cooperative, courteous and as professionally helpful as they can be.
My beef is with Mossberg. It takes freaking @!$#@ to do absolutely nothing to a returned for repair firearm and send it back and then tell the consumer.."send it in again if your not satisfied".
This is the first Mossberg firearm I've ever purchased and needless to say it will be the last.
Sorry to ramble and vent but I also wanted to share this in case any of you are considering the purchase of firearm in the near future.
