my father and i were coming back from scouting up in schuykill county wich went pretty well i found a great spot for rifle. but as we were driving back we past the state game lands by blue marsh. i saw a flock of what i thought was chickens but as we drove closer i saw it was a flock of 13-16 phesants! the sad part was you could tell they wernt gona last because they were standing on the shoulder of the road and didnt even flinch as we drove past them i know alot of people wouldnt agree but i say they should ban phesant hunting for two or three years and try to bring the population back by releasing them still.

With the clean farming since the mid 1980ies phesants don't have a chance to survive in Pa., boy I sure miss those good ol days of the wild phesants.

You're right lockedhorns, it's not that we need to ban hunting for a time period or have to release wild phez from western states, they won't survive either due to habitat. We need to provide the cover they need to go through a winter to have a wild population. I have however just about every spring seen hens with broods somewhere in my travels, last spring I saw 2 hens, both with half-grown young at a nearby SGL. So pen raised phez can survive and reproduce, just in numbers to small to make a difference. Re-instating CRP land, planting of good hold over cover at SGLS and the releasing of wild phez could bring our birds back though.

I remember when I was little here around Lancaster county on the first day of small game the fields were just polluted with orange, you almost couldn't find a field without a hunter going thru, for years it was as big as first day of buck season around these parts. I only got the very last tail end of any wild birds when I first turned 12, they were the ones that would actually flush in the air with a thunderous cackle!!

I have only seen on ringneck in my life in the wild and it was so tame it let me walk within 5 feet of it before it flew. I saw it along the road and got out to chase it away. I'm fairly sure the next guy wasn't so kind.
I think they could survive in my area if they were given brains when released. we have a lot of fields and stuff here that are not farmed. Maybe Pheasants Unlimited could give the Dakotas a rest and come help pa.
