Interested in a way to make a great inexpensive bag target ? Go to your local feed mill, Co-Op or grain store and buy a "poly 100 lb feed bag". They typically come in a variety of dimensional sizes so get the largest they have...unless your a good shot. Take the bag to a local warehouse or give to someone you know that works in a warehouse or distribution center and ask them to stuff it as full as they can with the plastic shrink wrap that they use to wrap pallets during transportation. Typically warehouses end up throwing this stuff out constantly and can fill a bag or bags in no time. Take the bag back to the feed mill and ask them to sew up the open end. Now you can mark either side with any type target face you choose using a magic marker and hang the bag from a stand, tree branch or saw horse etc. This target will last a long time and will stop arrows of all speeds and allow for easy removal of field points only......no bh's. When the bag gets shot up to badly simply get another bag and slip it over top of the first as the plastic stuffing will last a life time. I've been using targets like this for years and they work great and last forever. I've even heard of people using plastic Wal Mart type bags or rags for stuffing material as well. Hope this helps.

That's a great idea Jeff. I made one with an empty target bag from Third Hand. Filled it with old t-shirts socks, etc. It has handled everything I've shot at it. Everytime it gets a little worn inside I just add some more rags to the inside the bag. I may have to try one like you made.

My neighbors kids are in 4-H so I get bags from them and make these targets. I made a few out of grocery bags this summer and they work 3x better than those yellow and black buckmasters targets at wal-mart do. my home made targets stop my arrows within 10 inches of penetration compared to the other mentioned target leaving only the fletchings showing. Oh and if you go the grocery bag method, ask your neighbors to save bags when they shop also. It takes a heck of a lot of bags to get a good density.
