Well it's that time of year again and I have a tag left. This time I am going to buy a Flinter. What brands would are the best bang for the buck. I want a Hawken style but T/C is out of my reach. Unless someone knows of a used one for sale.

Don, even the used T/C hawkens are dicey. There are a couple other companies that make a hawkens style, but this feebloe old mind can't recall any of them. If you want to start low cost but still get a trusty gun, I cannot help but recommend a Traditions. I have had three over the years and never had a problem. First deer I ever took with a flinter (and only one with a flinter) was with my trusty Traditions. Yeah, they don't have the look of a Hawken or the double set trigger, but they're are a great way to get going without squeezing your wallet to death. I believe CVA makes a nice flinter too.

If you didn't live so far away, I'd let you use mine this year. My back won't let me drag another deer.

Thanks guys. Skwirl that T/C looks great and not a bad price. BT it's time I got one I go through this every year. Gully I wasn't shure how the Traditions were. A friend of mine has Tradition, T/C and Lyman.

Bought a flinter back in the early 80s. It was a T.C. kit and I still shoot that gun today. T.C. is a good company and they will stand by their products.

I found a T/C Reagade that is like it came out of the factory. I picked it up for $275. There was another one in the paper that a guy wanted $400 for so I think I got a good deal. Thanks for the help and can't wait to shoot it.

Good luck with it! TC is a great company and I hope it stays that way! It looks like I have to get my TC White mountain carbine out this year.
