My son and I are heading out this morning to squirrel hunt with my grandchildren. He'll mentor the 9 year old granddaughter, and I'll sit with my grandson. It looks like a great morning for tree rats! Wish us luck!

Well, we came home squirrelless, but I think we have a serious new hunter in the making. At the range this past summer wearing a short sleeved shirt the granddaughter shot her Dad's scoped .22 like a pro. This morning, wearing a heavy coat over a hunting vest, she couldn't find the squirrels in the scope, but it was exciting enough to get a, "when are we going again?" on the way home.
The stock is now 2 inches shorter, and Dad needs a new .22.

The needing a new .22 will be more than worth the memories of watching this little hunter enjoy the outdoors & learn about it(but you already knew that...)!! Good luck to you & her on her future outings!!

Thanks Zodiak, it was a special day! My granddaughter is dressed in her brother's hand-me-down camo. outfit that is still two sizes too large. On top of this, she has an orange hunting vest that comes below her hips. The camo outfit has a hood and on top of this, the granddaughter has an orange hat perched precariously. Can you visualize this?
She couldn't shoot her Dad's .22 no matter what, but she enjoyed the hunt enough to want to do it again! I think she'll be a hunter!

It turns out my son's .22 did not suffer under the saw because someone offer him a used .22 for the granddaughter. Fortunately, Dick's Sporting Goods offered a $99. special on a Youth-sized Rossi combo of two interchangable barrels-a .22 long rifle barrel, and a .410 shotgun barrel.
She and I went to Dick's yesterday morning and did the Black Friday thing and stood in line to buy her her first gun, and it fits perfectly. She make me proud by selecting the brown composite stock over a pink one they had on the rack!
Now, I think she is ready for limb bacon hunting.
