Well gang,
I could not help myself. Just returned from purchasing a CVA Optima Elite at Dicks. This deal was a little to good to pass up. .50cal blued barrel on the black thumbhole stock plus a mail in tag for a center fire barrel of your choice for under 4 bills.
I am very impressed with the quality of this gun. I had the Encore and the Optima side by side and I can see very little difference in the two guns. Of course, the proof is in the proverbial pudding so will see how she performs on the range next week.
Can't decide whether I want to get the 300 Win Mag barrel or the 308. More to come on that I guess.

GBJ, Good luck with the Optima. Sounds like a great deal, and I hope it is a shooter. Look forward to your range reports. Berks

I knew you were itching to pull the trigger on an optima. When you get extra barrels do you have to send it back like the NEFs?

Well Gents,
The pudding came out perfectly. I got the scope mounted on her yesterday, zeroed it on the bench last night and took her to the range today for a couple quick shots just to see if I could hit paper.
I fired four shots (triple 7 100 gr. loose, 295 powerbelt aero tip). From zero they were low five inches and to the right three, BUT ALL FOUR HOLES TOUCHED! Hit the clickers on the scope and next two shots were dead center on the eight and X ring touching. Since I was sighting her at 50 yards I dialed it to hit 2 inches high at 50 so I should be right on at 100 according to triple 7's chart. Had to get back to the office but man was I impressed. Very little recoil with a 100 gr. charge. The thumbhole stock is a dream and gives an instant sight picture. I cannot wait to get the .308 barrel for her.
Only draw back so far was my cleaning patches kept getting stuck at the firing chamber. I cut them down a good bit and that seemes to have solved the problem. This gun also shoots very very clean with triple seven. I almost had no clean-up to speak of when I got home.
So far, I am very impressed with this gun. We'll see how she performs in the deer woods next week. ;D
PS: Striperjim has joined the blackpowder ranks. He purchased my good old CVA hunterbolt magnum 45. I will miss that little gun. It was that gun that convinced me that In-lines weren't all evil. ;D

Sounds like a keeper GBJ!!
I owned an Optima Pro & it really shot the 348 grain Powerbelts well with 100 grains 2fg 777.
Its great they improved the receiver for takedown. The original Optima's couldnt be broken down for cleaning.
Who said in-lines are evil!! ;D

Chief, you are probably right. I think I keep holding off buying an inline because I can't seem to stop buying just one of anything! And, if I do buy one, then I have to learn this whole new language you and Loggy throw around like the rest of us have a clue what you're talking about! It's a dilemma for sure! Now, greybearjr is going to start talking funny!

Berks, think of it similar to a spinning fisherman takin up fly fishing or visa versa. It adds a new demension to the great sport sport of muzzleloading. Plus, you will learn a new language & be able to converse with chief, GBJ, me & other nuts which is a benefit in itself!!! ;D

Your point is well taken, Loggy, but I think you three guys have the potential of costing me some of my retirement,..... along with the stock market!
