i am thinking about getting into flintlock hunting and have been looking around on the world wide web and found 2 models i like so far. the first is a pa. pellet made by traditions with 1/48 twist and can shoot modern ammo.it also comes with the redipack that has all the accessories for $259.95 and has free shipping. the other i found interesting because it is the kind that you put together yourself, but with it there are no accessories that come with it and you actually have to put the finish on the wood and the barrel from what i have read about it. it is the traditions kentucky kit, it has 1/66 twist and says it shoots round balls so i am assuming it can't shoot anything else. it is only $169.95 and has free shipping as well. now heres the thing, the pa. pellet gun you can clean by removing the breech plug, on the kentucky gun there is no breech plug and i would think you couldn't clean it very well. so right now i am undecided on what to buy or if i should even bother getting one, i really like muzzleloader hunting but am not sure how much different these guns may be to use. i do not want to spend alot of money on one because i am not sure if i will like them or not. confused here to say the least

If u dont want to invest much..id opt for the 1-66 kit. It will shoot round balls fine. I never could find a 1-48 bbl that would shoot both round ball & conicals to my satisfaction. You may want to consider one of the Lymans. They have readily availble barrels (different twists) that just "drop-in". In effect you can have a flinter that is very versatle. The Lyman's Great Plains Rifle is a fine factory offering. Personally id opt for a Lyman (if even used) over a traditions. Thats just my opinion. Flinters are really a lot of fun & not that hard to get into sparkin & smokin!

Lyman makes one of the very best production guns on the market with the flare for tradition of ages past. I own the Great Plains and do not have one negative word to say about this gun as a starter for blackpowder. I highly reccomend it and hope you get bit by the BP BUG!! Once bitten YOU WILL want a custom gun at some point!
