How do you go about selling fur. What is the process after taking an animal. If I were to get a coyote what would I have to do?

braze8 - first and foremost Get yourself a book on skinning and caring for furs, it will list all the necessary tools and steps you will need to get started.
Secondly when taking a shot, attempt to make a shot in the head as to mimize pelt damage. If your like me and use a 22-250 for the larger furbearers, it will leave a big hole(costing value of the fur) if you hit them in the wheelhouse. I use a 17 HMR for the smaller furbearers.
Your third step is to get the animal from the field and skinned as quickly and carefully as possible. Unlike a deer, furbearers are skinned from tail to nose feet included.
Log on to NAFA.com and create a login account, then browse the wild furs section of the website. The site contains all of the info necessary to ship your furs, like when to send them, and who and where your nearest fur depot is.
good luck

January 2009 NAFA auction results. www.nafa.ca/auction/archive/NAFA_09-01-07_WF_USD.pdfNAFA feels that the February auction will be better, they felt that yesterday's auction was a very good indication of the world economy. They did not have the attendance from furiers that they usually get; however, February has been traditionally the best auction of any of the auctions, which is why I usually send my furs out for the February auction. Which reminds me if you want your furs in the february auction they must be recieved by the auction before January 12 to be ready for the february sale. Most depots have already closed thier receiving for this auction, you would have to send them to the auction directly at this time.
