STARTING a new series of classic PA big game cartridges..about one every 3 days or so...going to start with some old favorites and work our way forward..I'd like all you to voice your opinions, good and bad about each..MMmmmm, where shall we start...Let's start with an old time favorite the .35 REMINGTON...My uncle had one in the model 14 and 141, when I was a kid, 50 years ago or more...it was the first rifle I saw that was different from my DAD's pump in /06..he called it a brush gun..killed alot of deer with it...I like the spiral twist on the tube magazine...I shot one when I was about 12, thought it really kicked compared to my 20 guage with slugs..haven't seen one around while hunting for many moons, seemed like a great deer cartridge many moons ago..sorry to see it go by the wayside.. OK men, have at it...good and bad or feel free to comment anyway...

the .35 Rem was my first deer/bear rifle. managed to harvest 1 of each. both were 1 shot kills, IMO a good rifle just not a wide variety of factory loads. My round of choice was the 200 grain bullet

My dad used a .35 rem in a model 141.When I turned 12,he bought me a new Marlin 336 in .35 Rem.We killed alot of deer with those rifles but the performance was weak at best.Just like with any rifle, shot placement is the most important thing. However,a 200gr bullet at just under 2000 fps isn't the cannon alot of people believe.I never remember a deer dropping in it's tracks unless it was hit in the neck and many times we didn't get exit wounds.
I haven't used that rifle in about 15 years so next week,it's getting handed down to my 11 year old nephew.

I used my Mom's Remington model 141 in 32 Remington and took and awful lot of deer with it,That one is gone now but I bought another one and haven't used it yet but I'm going to give it a try. I got a set of reloading dies and have been working up a good load for it.

Years ago I was hunting with my Dad it was the last year he hunted and had the shakes pretty bad so he would lean againist a tree to shoot.. He had a deer come within 30yards he touches off the old 35 and shot, when I walk down to the deer he had two dead deer shot threw both of them kilt them dead.... He was all shook up never broke a law is his life.. He tagged one and I tagged the other... That was the only time I ever saw two deer killed with one shot.... The next season he died so the memory stayed with me.... And the laugh I had over it... Really shook the old man up! MM

WELCOME to the new style of PA hunting...deerless and wondering why IT IS TRUELY SAD..and to think, shooting was all day long, it never ended and we were shooting at BUCKS only back then...HOW COULD THINGS HAVE GOTTEN THIS MESSED UP IN SUCH A HURRY...next year I'm hunting with a spear..why carry any rifles...

My only deer rifle is a Marlin 336 RC in .35 Remington, and I love it. She's only 45 years old...2 less than me. I chose it over the 30-30 simply because it is a bit different.

BEAR...I've shot them out of my .357 HERRET in the same barrel..I think I'm around the same velocity as the 35 rem,...I'd say they are very similar as far as staying together and penetration...about the same accuracy...and cost...I myself like the lighter, more velocity type 150's... either way, love the recoil and knock down and out power of the ..35's in the SUPER 14...the ole way's were better way's !!

I have a dislike for the .35 Rem. I did kill a buck with it.....after three well placed shots. My stepson killed a nice doe with it that took three more. My son wounded and lost a doe this past year with the round. It's my most unlucky round.
