Not sure where you're staying but assateague island is a beautiful place. The kids can see both wild horses and deer on the island. There's also crabbing, fishing, and claming. We're probably going there this summer to camp at frontier town. If you don't like the crowds and want the family atmosphere go swimming at the beach there. The park has a small fee but it's worth it.If you do that when entering the park take the road to the right for the beach, much cheaper.I think that's state park and the more expensive one is national.

For fishing, you wanna stop in at either fenwick tackle or oyster bay tackle and pick up a copy of Sue Foster's "Ocean City crabbing and fishing guide". Sue is the propietior of both shops and both shops have very knowelgeable people working there. They can really help ya out! This small book is loaded with locations around Ocean City to fish and crab, what you can expect to catch at each location and types of fish there. A nice place to fish with kids is the bulkhead between 2nd and 4th street. Three blocks of fishing with metered parking (if you park on one of the side streets there's no meters) porta potties, park benches and fish cleaning stations. www.oysterbaytackle.comwww.stripersonline.comin the upper right hand corner, click on surftalk forums then scroll down to delmarva forum. You'll find reports on different areas around OC. If there is anything specific ya wanna know drop me a pm.

went there last year on vacation...
I did some surf fishing right off the beach behind our condo I forget the hours but you could fish the morning until a certain time then in the evening starting at a certain time.. Caught some blues but mostly scates..they were fun to catch but hated taking them off the line..
Also took a party boat out in the sound I believe it was called the "BayBee" we fished for flounder It was a fun time.
