Anybody hunt there? Was wondering what you thought about the area and how the game situation is. I just got some land near there to hopefully someday put a small cabin on. I mainly hunt squirrel, deer, and bear. Thank you

That's a lot of land. What area are you talking about? I saw a nice ten point taken out of there this year. There are deer, but they're scattered. Same with bear.

Just checked out this post again. I am talking about the eastern part of it near Salisbury and Meyersdale around Mt. Davis. Thanks for any info. I am just starting to clear out our little patch of land in Laurel Falls which is just north or Salisbury and west of Meyersdale. You can see the tower at Mt. Davis from the land. Thank you

We hunted on and around Mt. Davis about ten years ago, this was before they started the concurrent season. It was the worst deer hunting we've ever experienced.
We heard a total of 2 or 3 shots all day on opening day. It definitely wasn't because lack of hunters. There were between 75-100 cars/trucks parked all around that area and hunters scattered everywhere.
We never hunted that area again. I'm sure if you do take a buck off that mountain, he'll be a good one.....and probably the only one. ;D

Yep. Forbes, Mount Davis etc. are all alot lower deer density then years ago...
Decent bear density though in areas of Forbes.

Havent set foot on the Linn run portion of the SF. Im a little familiar with the Mt. Davis stretch, and from what Ive seen and heard, Id have to agree with ridgehunter.
Im a little more familiar with the south western portion of forbes than any other part. the area of bits and pieces that roughly encircles elliotsville.
Hadnt done much deer hunting up that way in a long time. Have done some hiking & scouting around, a couple years of bear hunting and some predator calling through that area within the last few years though. Have run into a coupla bears while not looking for them. Find reasonable amounts of sign.
Know of some hunters that have hunted up that way recently deer rifle season. Didnt give very good reviews. Though theyd run into a coupla bear archery season.
Id say in the general area gamelands 51 would be a better bet at the moment for slightly higher deer & better bear numbers if someone was wanting to hunt public land in the general area.
