I have a question before i head out this year, since i'll be flintlocking by myself for a couple morning & evening hunts rather than with my uncle on one all day hunt. I go out in the morning, & head out of the woods mid-morning, go back to the house & plan to go back out in the evening. My question is: Do i have to fully unload the gun by firing it? Or do i just have to empty the flash pan? Probably a dumb question but, oh well Thanks & best of luck to all heading out!

Not a dumb question there buckhunter92. Empty your flashpan and your ready to go the next day. If you can when your out hunting and it,s cold and then your done hunting for the day empty your flashpan and store the muzzleloader in a cold place also. Had this happen to us. You load it in the morning and hunt all day empty your flashpan and bring it back in the camp where it,s nice an warm that barrel starts getting warmed up and sweating. Just keep the muzzleloader in a cool place and you wont have any troubles.

;)An additional safety precaution I take when just removing the pan powder, or a nipple, is to place a bulky wiping cloth (I use a small hand towel in my belt when afield) or spare glove under the dropped hammer. This retards an accidental discharge. When transporting a charged weapon in this manner, ;Dalways make sure the weapon has the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. I place mine in the rear seat compartment of the vehicle, hammer up and trigger guard down against the back rest of the seat. Then my coat goes over it, and pack and gear on the coat. The muzzle is on the end of the seat and facing slightly down at the passenger side wall. :oGod forgive an accidental discharge, it should exit your vehicle out/down to the curbside of the road.
