For Christmas, I took Buddy and Kyle on a hunt today, we had a great day!! It was Kyles first time hunting Pheasant & I have to say, he's a natural!! He made some great shots, even dropping the first bird Tara pointed on the first shot!! Some pics of the hunt- First bird of the day: Buddy & Kyle going in for the flush: Another point with Kyle going in for the flush: This was an awesome point!! Tara was crawling through redbrush & stopped....I thought her collar caught at first, but Buddy said she was on point & sure enough, she was! Look closely here, you can see where the bird ran in front of her:

The days take, these guys did a great job today!!: You're not seeing things, those are black and golden melanistic phez. Some close-ups of the Melanistics, very different colored Phez, the pics don't do the iridescence of the black phez justice, they are simply gorgeous!! A golden: A normal color phase rooster:

Wow...sure glad you explained. For a minute there I thought you guys were shooting the farmers chickens... Never saw Pheasants of that color variety before, very unique. Congratulate those 2 fine young men from me on a job well done. Their much better shots than I am.

They're very unique looking, I was very happy to get them, the breeder is a good friend of mine & did me a favor for Christmas. Kyle & Buddy were AWESOME today, I was proud of them! They both want to get one mounted, we put them in nylons when I got them home (helps preserve the feathers until they get to taxidermist). Kyle is definitely going to be a fine addition to the youth bird hunting team next year! I'm just sad the other 2 boys couldn't make it today........

Buddy, congratulations on a great hunt. You sure are lucky to be able to hunt with a good teacher who just happens to have a couple of great bird dogs. I hope you come to the annual PAO bird hunt. I would like to meet you. Then you can tell me any funny stories you have about Anne.

Awesome hunt Ann. My son was home for the holidays ( from the army) and we finally got his Brittany out for the first time. He did a good job for little training, put up 8 out of 9 birds. His retrieving needs alot of work, we lost 2 of those birds. Then we got my lab out and he put up 8 out of 9 and we did not lose a bird with him. We got 2 of the black birds and 3 of the blonds. they are cool looking birds. It was a great way to spend time with my young man.
Thanks for taking the time with the kids and if they would want to try to keep up with a flusher let me know.
