I agree CVA or Traditions are great 1st timers. The quality is better now than in the past. Generally 1st timers don't want to blow their entire bankroll on a gun just yet so for a budget minded fellow these fit the bill. The Kodiaks, Optimas from CVA, and your Evolutions and Pursuits from Traditions are all great guns that can shoot a ways if you do your part.

Buckslayer, if I was on a tight budget, I would look at either a CVA or NEF. While I don't like some things with the NEF, you can't beat the price and they can shoot and won't break the bank.

If I was on a tight budget, I'd get either a T/C Omega Z5 or a Knight Disc Extreme. They are both quality guns and can be had for $200-$300.
They are both American Made and parts and service are readily available as needed.
If you buy too cheap, you'll usually have to purchase another gun sooner rather than later.

I have a Knight DISC Elite and T/C Omega (both .50 cal) My favorite and most accurate is the Elite... but they are very hard to find in .50 cal. (I had 2 of them, but my buddy talked me out of my "backup" Elite) So I'll recommend the Omega which is also a fine rifle... almost as accurate and easy to clean. Some can be hard to load.. but I have found the .451 bullets with the Harvestor regular or crush rib sabot load fairly easy and are accurate. Good luck in your search... Rob
