Went down to the Yough River tonight to try my luck. Threw corn out on the bottom for carp. Threw a buzz bait with the other rod. Got a big hit on the buzz bait. After a long fight, landed a 25" pike. And yes, dknappy, I caught it with my noodle rod! That was the only fish caught on lures. I had a hit on the bottom, but missed it. I rebaited with corn and cast out again. Had another hit and almost lost my other noodle rod. It was headed for the water. I grabbed it and set the hook. I fought it for a couple minutes til the line broke. I guess I'll have to break out the heavy rod for carp. The noodle rod and four pound test just wasn't enough. Might try again tomorrow. Sorry about the picture. I don't carry a net so I had to beach the pike.

Hey BT. If ya ever need a fishin' buddy on the Yough, I'd like to try it. Is the area you fish boatable, or do you strictly fish from shore?

Gully, it is used a lot by boaters. There is a boat launch under the Route 119 bridge. I don't have a boat, so I fish from shore. There are sometimes too many rafts, canoes, and kayaks. From July to the middle of September, for me, is the best time to target smallmouth with topwaters. All you need are shorts and old shoes to wade. If you ever want to give it a shot, let me know.

Will do, BT. I have a 14' boat right now and could tow it along if you want to fish from a boat. Sounds shallow enough though that hitting the bottom might be a problem.

I've heard many stories of bent shafts and mangled props. Usually people who don't know the river. I can put you on fish without a boat.
