Here is a pic of Dakota and me at the bank of a pond beginning the duck search portion of the NAVHDA Utility Test. This was just a training day a few weeks ago not an actual test. I will shoot a blank out of the shotgun and then send my dog into the water to search for the duck. The duck was already placed into the pond in the cover out of site. I like to use live ducks, but dead ones can be used. The dog has to search for the duck like it is a cripple that the dog did not mark. Once the dog is released from the bank there is no more interaction between dog and handler. Dakota waiting for the gun blast and the release command. My favorite part of the picture is Dakota's intensity as she looks out into the pond.
