At 2 mnths old, a pup has a very short attention span. I work on socialization and bonding first...get pup into lots of different situations, lots of walks in different areas. Short obedience sessions, 5-10 minutes once or twice a day is plenty working on sit and here for now. He can start incorporating a whistle with the commands now so down the road pup will or sit on the whistle or come to him. Retrieving can be started, but all in fun for now and short play sessions, always leave him wanting more. Also a good idea to start the retrieving in a hall or on a long line outdoors so pup cannot play catch-me-if-you-can from the get-go. Never take the bumper right away from puppy when he comes to you, let him hold it for a few seconds before you take it, LOTS of praise, this should be a fun game right now. I'm sure Tommyjoe on here can advise better than I on training for him when he gets older, directional work, polishing retrieving work. He runs some awfully nice labs and has helped me out with my guys.

Good stuff there zodiak, thanks. I'd like to get another lab next year but I think the wife and I are too old to go through the puppy stage again. I'm thinking of picking one up at the pound that is at least three years old. ;D
Good luck pasteve.
