its been awhile since i read the bylaws, either i have been wrong or this is new , i always thought fires were illegal whether for heating or food on state game lands, while i have no need for such fires while hunting, and wouldnt want to interfere with other hunters in the area but would be nice to fire up a small fire or portable camping flame while hiking/scouting the lands. especially if hiking/scouting with kids, hot dogs over a flame sounds better than ham and cheese sandwiches
§ 135.41. State game lands.
(a) Restrictions limited. The following exceptions to § 135.2 (relating to unlawful actions) pertain to lands and waters designated as State game lands:
(1) Mushrooms and fruits of berry-producing plants may be picked.
(2) Small open fires for cooking or warming purposes are permitted only at places where adequate precautions are taken to prevent the spread of fire which may damage adjacent areas and shall be attended at all times and completely extinguished before leaving the site of the fire. Open fires are prohibited when the fire index rating used by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, is high, very high or extreme. A person causing a wildfire, in addition to possible criminal penalty, is liable for all damages, cost of extinguishing and fines.

i knew that you could pick mushrooms and berries but i was also under the impression that fires were not legal on gamelands. i think that it might be a plus to cook a couple of hotdog if you are scouting or hiking with kids. it just might make them alittle more interested in the outdoors. i know that my boys love cooking out in the woods when we go camping.
