Due to the nature of where i hunt and characters i see, i decided to get a permit to carry a pistol, only when I hunt, and i do know one fellow that had a deer taken from him, but he also now has a pistol with him all the time. I was just wondering if any one else carry's a pistol when hunting.

Yes I carry one at all times and especially when hunting. I had a bear walk in on me walking to my stand and thank goodness he wasn't hungry because I already look well done and wouldn't want me to be mistaken for a walking steak:-)

Sorry but I disaree with the reasoning behind it. Am all for people being allowed to carry without hassles. But if you don't feel safe hunting carrying your bow/xbow/rifle/shotgun/knife etc.... Don't think carrying a pistol will change anything
And where the heck are you hunting that you don't feel safe? A city park in philly at 3am?

2 years ago on the first wed. of rife I was walking to my stand. It is 4:30 in the morning and I have a hour and a half walk. Well to make a long story short I had a pack of yotes that surounded me and where with in 30 yards all around me barking and yelping and let me tell ya when your alone in the mountain with no one around I was wishing I even had an uzi! There isn't anyone that can say they wouldn't feel safer with another firearm straped to them in my oppinion.

I hunt game lands, and i usually arrive well before first light, I have seen so many characters in the morning sitting in their cars at those hours, and it just bothers me why anyone other than hunters would sit there, game lands are dark, isolated. I have also walked into bear and had them around me in bow season, and the way this world is becoming, you just never know any more, better safe than sorry.

A long time ago we were deer hunting on the first day of buck in an Eastern County bordering the Delaware River. I had my back up against a tree and started hearing the swishing of leaves. I could see 180 degrees and I didn't see what was making so much noise. I finally slowly turned around and saw a herd of maybe 50+ deer going up the hill behind me. I cranked up the scope and started scoping them out. After about a dozen deer went by... BANG!! I saw the hide of a deer bulge out on my side of it and it fell down. Then it got up and ran with the herd. My buddy was on that side of the hill and I thought he saw antlers when I didn't. I ran up there and there was this old guy about 50 ( I was still a teenager) closing the bolt of his rifle on a fresh round. I said "Did you get him"? He said "Get what"? I said "That deer" He said " I didn't shoot no deer that was YOU!" Just then my buddy came running up and asked me if I shot. I said no, this guy did. The guy started raising his rifle toward us and said we better get the H ...out of there or we're gonna be in a lot of trouble. We backed up out of there but we got his license number when he turned around to get his doe. We were staying with a relative of my buddy's that was a Deputy WCO. We gave him the license number and the spot where we were and he went to work and found a gut pile. Our guns barrels were still clean. A couple of days later we found out this guy was from out of state with a Pa. license and there were a bunch of does hidden under the porch of the camp he was staying at. Some of the other guys were from out of state too and illegally licensed and were caught using semi-auto rifles. They were hung on the Cross! My point is if that guy disarmed us by making us drop our rifles he could have killed us. Ever since I could legally carry a handgun I do when I'm in the woods and someone would be surprised if they thought I was disarmed by taking my rifle. They would have to do a body search to find my pistol and that's when the fun will start. Yep, you never know.
