Knowing that it was a holiday today I invited my friends daughters on a hunt. The weather was in rare form and 2 skinny girls would not stay warm ( I thought ).
We got to the swamp at 5 AM and paddled to the spot in the snow the long way because I missed a turn. We setup in deeper water because it was getting close to shooting time.
Drug the girls into the cattails and stood in the water next the canoe.
the youngest water swatted a duck as soon as she saw it and right after a duck flew in and the oldest hit it and it started to swim away. We paddled out and by the time we got there the first bird had disappeared but we were able to retrieve the flyer a ruddy duck.
the action slowed for awhile other than the ones that caught us with our guard down. but the girls stuck it out and a group of teal flew in and I managed a double on drake gwt. That fired the girls up even though their feet were getting cold. they hung in till a lone drake mallard hit the deeks perfectly straight at us. I missed on my first shot and didn't need to shoot a second as the youngest girl dropped him. we decided to call it quits with everyone having something to show for the day.
The second half of the day was going to buy pheasants for a friendly hunt at my friends home. the girls had a blast trying to catch them with a fishing net, not to say I didn't have fun.
I received a thank you, high fives and smiles for my efforts. What more can a man need.
well we got the girls out for pheasant today along with my neighbors granddaughter. And fun was had by all.
She got her first animal a big rooster that her 6 month old cocker flushed and the other 2 got their first pheasants.
And I forgot to mention my friends youngest shot the mallard and it was her first flying bird.
Theses were my favorite 2 back to back hunts ever. I even put the gun away at the end just to flush birds for them.
