I have one and am getting a new pup to train. She is posted in the above topic. What is your favorite squirrel weapon. It is enjoyable. You don't have to sit all day. You don't have to be motionless or very quiet and you get to walk around and explore the woods while you are hunting squirrel and if you are a dog person you get to enjoy hunting with a dog.

I never squirrel hunted with dogs. Never saw a real pressing need to have a dog find them. They're everywhere.....LOL

A good dog can be a blast. I know you can sit and kill a lot of squirrels but on a good day with a good dog you can kill a lot of squirrels fast with your buddys. Not have to be quiet and can all hunt together. Get to walk around the woods. Depends what you like to do. We are not overly blessed here what made me want one was when there used to be bunches of them and I would walk in the woods and see them as I walked and never get a shot at them. Thought man a dog would be good. We don't have them in those numbers where I go anymore but I can't wait 'till we do or I get somewhere that does. Not near houses of course. The father away I can get the better!!

I'm getting a Black Mouth Cur puppy the last weekend in April for squirrel hunting. She is a Rambo 2 x Queen 5 out of Ladner's stock in Mississippi. She will be 7 weeks on April 13, but I won't be home from college for good until the last weekend in april. I can't wait to get her and train her for squirrels. I'm pretty darn excited. After she's hunting solid on squirrels for a year or so I'd like to start her on coons too.

Good luck falconfour. Hope your pup turns out to be a good one. Blackmouths are some tough dogs. There is a fellow who lives a little ways away from here. Had coonhounds and got a BMC. Loves him.

don't know how ya train them for squirrels but our dog Tara (part rat terrier part black lab) goes nuts over squirrels and runs them up a tree so fast it makes there head spin...lol she tree's them and won't leave the base of the tree until i force her to, i want to take her in the woods and see how she does around gun shots but Jean -AKA- pinkcamo forbids it because shes afraid something might happen to her

Lots of woods time. If you have a dog that is breed for it that is usually all it takes. You can show the dog a caged squirrel and work with that a little but you don't want to do that but only a few times. It is harder than you think for a dog to be good at squirrels. I know everyone always says, "My dog will chase squirrels" but let them take that dog out in the woods. A squirrel is on the ground for a while sometimes then up one tree, down another, up another tree back down to the ground, up another. It usually takes a while for a squirrel dog to be good. There are dogs that can do it the first season but I would say most would take two seasons to be finished. Got to love them dogs. It is probably the hardest animal for a dog to hunt but these are smart dogs.

This is Bella when she was younger got to get some more pics. She is an OMCBA (Original Mountain Cur Breeders Association)Mountain Cur. You should see her now getting all filled out. She is getting to be one nice looking dog. Bella on the run Bellas Grandma 3 time World Champion Bonni Beti My treeing cur Angel Angel winding one with Bella beside her when she was a young pup Angel treed in the snow Notice in the one picture how Angels mouth looks a little different. She fell out of a tree. She climbed up a tree that was leaning against another one 'cause she was trailing a squirrel that ran up it. She must have fallen 15-20 feet and hit a tree on the way down. I thought I lost her and I had my gun aimed in case I had to put her out of her misery. Then thank God she sat up. She was dazed and confused but she was fine after she got some rest. I would have hated to have to put her down. These girls live in the house and Angel sleeps with me every time I go to sleep, even when I work nights and she slept all night she will sleep with me all day. You couldn't want better dogs.
