Took the boys out today for Rabbits. Other than Turkeys this is the first time in about 20+ years that I've gone out hunting using a shotgun and I haven't hunted small game in years. Actually Austin used my 12 ga. Remington Semi-auto that I bought used years ago and when he shot today it meant he shot it before I did, I never even shot the thing after I bought it. We had a ball and considering we had no dog and the rabbits were sitting real tight we didn't do bad. I got the first one as it busted out on my side of the hedgerow so there was no way Austin could shoot but later on he got his chance and connected. This is Austin's first kill, 1st time shooting this gun and actually the shot was the very first time he shot at a live target. Most importantly he handled the gun extremely well and made me one proud Dad. Logan did great beating the brush as well and now we're all pooped. BTW: If Austin post's something about me missing 3 don't believe him,....he's lying..... Looks like I may get to test out that recipe after all Truegrit...

Thanks all. I didn't think we did bad for not having a dog. In about 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. we kicked out 6 Rabbits and 1 Grouse. Should have had more Rabbits in the bag if someone could shoot straight... I think the barrel's on my old O/U must be bent.....I gotta em checked out..

Truegrit.....they haven't invented glasses that can help my shooting and I doubt they ever will. Even the old Coke bottles wouldn't help. It's not the eyes that are the problem. I never was much of a wing shot and not shooting a shotgun for over 20 years doesn't help matters. Pretty sad when I can look into one of my gun cabinets and show you 3 shotguns in there that I have never shot since I bought them.. As I mentioned the Semi Austin used today I bought back in the late 80's I believe and I've never shot it. I have an 870 Remington wingmaster in 16 ga. that has 1 box of shells through it on a trap range by the original owner and I bought that one in the early to mid 80's and I've never shot that one either. I said to Austin tonight that it's a good thing we don't depend on my shotgunning abilities to feed our family or we'd all be real skinny. I'm just glad I shoot my bows better than I do a shotgun.....hmmmm......maybe I should have taken one of my bows instead..... ......
